David Walker (1934-2008) studied design at the Central School of Art under Jeanetta Cochrane. He began his career principally as a costume designer, working at Theatre Workshop in 1960 and then at the Royal Court Theatre, the RSC and the Royal Ballet. He became one of the world's leading designers especially acclaimed as an opera and ballet designer and created productions for every major opera house and ballet company around the world.

Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design for Hamlet (1971 - Hallmark Hall of Fame)

Nomination

Emmy Award for Outstanding Costume Design for a Limited Series for The Corn is Green (1979 - CBS)

Few costume designers could encompass both registers as readily as David Walker... His intricately coloured designs were grounded in an affectionate and encyclopedic sense of period, his sense of magic was delicately picturesque.
